John BuchananThough the new plea of John Buchanan, the coach of the Kolkata Knight Rider’s team for the inclusion of the fifth overseas cricketer has been denied, it has triggered millions of questions and doubts regarding Indian talent and skill. It has become a highlighted question of how and in what way the Indian players have become inferior to the overseas players.
Every IPL XI comprises of three categories; The Internationl stars from India, The foreign players and the domestic cricketers. Now Buchanan’s quest is targeting the last section for the inclusion of an additional overseas player. With millions being invested in these stars it has obviously become the notion of the investors to grab the cup at any cost. But this has finally ended up at the question of sacrifice of the budding stars. Although the question, “Is Twenty20 cricket is the right form of game?” Is a matter of debate, the truth is that it provides a huge platform for all aspirants with a huge audience. The point that renowned stars like Glenn Mcgrath, Paul COllingwood, Daniel Vettori, Makhaya Ntini and many did not either show up or mark their presence while little known Indian players like Naman Ohja and Shadab Jakati played beyond expectations clearly highlights the fact that the Victory Factor does not depend on overseas players alone. And moreover the fact that Parthiv Patel and Suresh Raina made it up from the domestic level, is something that needs attention.
With Buchanan’s plea notwithstanding, the IPL is set off to better heights with its own regulations and restrictions. Indian Players should be the ones to reap more from the IPL.
